History :
How things have changed!
When we purchased the company Brixham Activity Services, it came with a small transporting contract for a disabled client.
The vehicle we started with was worn out and in such a bad state of repair that it was soon on the point of collaps and we knew we would need another vehicle if we were to keep providing the transporting for the disabled client who so desperately relied on our services.
With this in mind we went looking for another vehicle, but knew it would cost quite a bit of capital and the small contract we had would not help to keep us going.
We decided that if we could get a bigger vehicle (A small vehicle was not suitable for our client anyway due to his wheelchair size), we could also use this vehicle to help other disabled people and groups to get away and enjoy their freedom, and as we already provided activities for over 50 old peoples homes in the area, we could supply outings for them as well.
Brixham Accessible Transport was born and we seperated it from its sister company Brixham Activity Services so that it could have its own status.
We traded successfully for three years when suddenly the government changed the way companies could transport people and we were forced to become a taxi company.
This meant we had to purchase a new vehicle (a very big expense in itself) which unfortunatly forced us to raise our prices as we had to also pay for Vehicle and Drivers to be registered Taxi Drivers even though that was not our business model.
Then very shortly after that expense, the local council stepped in and changed the Taxi Contract regulations which made sure we could not get any contracted work as we had to have more than one vehicle along with other restrictions.
Due to lack of sufficient funds, we had to sell our vehicle to a local taxi firm and close the business.
It is now (one year later) with great pleasure, we have been able to finaly find a way around these problems and are now in the process of, once again, providing some fantastic transporting for the Elderly and disabled.
